Hi guys,
Several people have suggested national championships in the past so I've decided to give something a test run to see how it goes. With help from Avaritus and Marloes (so far) maybe we can get something going.
So why this topic?
We have lots of different ways we can run it. But of course we would like your opinions! I personally think such a large tournament should have:
- variety to prove the best nation overall (not just one match elimination or one powerup set)
- integrity (only trusted users should organise things such as matches and team selection)
- structure (a well-made schedule which everyone follows)
This tournament will be time-consuming to run. So it is important that we think it through - give us your thoughts! I was personally thinking of spring/summer/autumn/winter leagues and a world cup (first to decide the league standings).
The Poll
The purpose of the poll is to see what you guys would like winners to be decided by. So the options are (more can be added):
- 3x 3v3 matches (thin, speed and special), users may play in 2 games maximum against one nation
- a single 4v4 match (thin)
- 1v1 (none, best of 3), 2v2 (speed) and 3v3 (thin) played at the same time - 6 player team required
- somehow combine FFA and team matches
Note: for option 3 there would be a full week to organise a match.
Some General Rules

- Team captains will be elected and responsible for:
- team selection
- organising matches
- reporting inappopriate behaviour or abuse
- being active (or a new captain will be selected)
- Only known accounts can play (none of these random second/new accounts)
- Cheating, for example someone playing for the wrong country, will result in both nations being disqualified
- Try to talk in your native language! Easiest way to prove things ;)
- Minimum of 3 players from a country to enter
- Promotion/relegation each season if the league system is decided (like in football)

"combine FFA and team games somehow" FTW, can't get more diverse than that. What is a team captain exactly? Does he also play in a team himself or does he just organize everything?
That is up to the captain! They can also play :) Basically they are in charge of the team and help to run the tournament for their nation. (So it's not just ALL mods...)

Nice idea! This made me think about the idea of international curvefever tournaments: teams made from players of different countries competing against each other in team and ffa. I think that would be am awesome fight as well! :D

So ,there can join everyone from etc. Croatia , or just Captian will choose players, or how? it won't be good if 1000 rank player play for country :c

Well it is difficult to organise for so many itemsets. Having more games to play and people to get makes things annoying for captains. And Kizza that is why captains will be trustworthy players who want the best for their nation.
And it's green speed I meant.
Ok so update, I've been doodling (see pic below xD)
From the initial results of the poll I can see people favour ideas 3 and 4 - I have an idea to combine the two. What does everyone think of this idea?
The competition could be spread over 3 events - with countries playing for points in some sort of system.
You will need 5, but ideally 6 players minimum to enter your nation.
One player may compete in 2 events maximum.
Event 1 - Head-to-head
2 players required:
Simple world cup style. 2 wins = 3 points. 1-1 = 1 point. 0 wins = 0 points.
Knockout stages: If the result is 1-1 then it will go to 'goal difference'. If still a tie then hmmm...longest 1 player scaled map camp wins? (I love this idea :D) Or we could make all 4 players do it and the longest combined wins!
Event 2 - Team pride
5 players required:
Simple world cup style. Same as Event 1 for scoring. Except the last decider will be 1v1 none - captain's choice.
Event 3 - The FFA showdown
3 players required:
Separate competitions with random draws. All ran at the same time.
The country with the most points overall will be the current champions. The point system will then decide the league divisions for spring/summer/autumn/winter leagues.

You are doing great job yet ,but why does every season get an own league ?
Well if it's a one-off tournament then it will be once a year. If we add seasonal leagues it makes things more continuous :) Do you think a league is a bad idea? Something to play every week?

this is looking like a really good idea and a really good system for a tournament in my opinion. I wouldn't change anything about it.
Would be good tho, if only people from those nations play for those teams even tho some nations wouldn't have 5 players I know that :/

Event 3 - The FFA showdown
3 players required:
1 rspeed ffa
1 special ffa
1 thin+corner ffa

Well Kizza I thought having 4 FFA comps is too much, and since I'd like this tournament to be for everyone - lots of people like thin FFA games. But obviously you would like corner too as you pointed out! So I combined those two.

Some nations probably could struggle to get 5-6 players :\ Do you think having 1 week to organise 1 match will be fine for this? Plus I think we could put some more rules in, or even another mini-tournament for those who don't have so much players.
Example rule: if you can't get 3 players you forfeit. If you get 3-4 players then you can play but sacrifice 33% of points or something (so would need to win a team game 10-6 for example).
Maybe I'm over-complicating things now xD

At what time do you think this will be done, is it a fixed time or are they free?
Choosing the right time is hard because of the players from America for example.

My name is Jeff.
I'm thinking of giving 24 hours for team captains to arrange the team matches. And then each game in the world cup style comp can be done progressively. The FFA will be a one-day event though (all 3 in 1 day at the same time).
Hm, how about banding some nations together if they don't have enough players? This way all teams would be treated equally.
Some people may not like this idea because maybe they would have different languages but I think it's a pretty easy way to get a team with 5/6 players. Maybe they could band with a neighboor country or something (for ex: portugal + spain or sweden + norway). I don't know, let me know what you think. =)
Hmm I think that wouldn't be so good..
I don't necessarily think it's a bad idea. I just don't think they should be allowed to 'win' the competition if they don't have enough players. If you don't have a team then you aren't the best nation :p But finding some way for them to play would definitely be nice :)
Alan ,countries like Germany or Netherlands have many good players co can they participe with 2 teams or only one?

Well Germany and Netherlands also have more than 11 players in their FIFA world cup squads but only 11 can play :p
I think only 1 team for now. But perhaps in the seasonal leagues....if we need extra teams then we could add a Germany2 or whatever.

Tip: fix the title and call it an international (= between nations) championship instead of a national (= only one nation involved) championship. I got confused on this part when i first read it.

But Tranquility, there is THIN in event 2!! -_- , or move rspeed or special , for just thin and just corner!

So, since there is so few people from Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland - Can these countries be combinated as team Scandinavia f.ex? Would seem to be more fair for us.

Kizza I would like to see you prove this with facts, rather than just words. Red speed cannot be combined with any other items. It is a unique game mode. Corner + thin is a common game mode and its a logical choice to combine these two.
Trust me im lyin - yes it will be named this for the real thing.
Pjush: I don't think it's fair if countries are allowed to combine. If your country does not have a good enough base of players to compete then they don't really deserve to be international champions :\ I would rather your nation had to involve 1200 ranked users than combine with other nations to have a team full of 2k's.
Well, i dont think it is fair if you do it this way. Like Norway has any chance with 1200 average teamplayers against (ex) Germany with 2k average. Germans, Polanks, Balkans and Netherlanders are dominating curvefever with over 75% of the population here. Mixing Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Norway would be fair, but you dont understand that, right? :)

Well then it's not 'national' anymore and the whole point of this tourn is gone.. Countries don't team up in the Olympics or something either right? If Germany has the best players, they deserve to win this tourn.
They will be the best only cz they are majority. Look at theReal f.ex. He is alone as a good player in Finland.

Anette it is not about population. San Marino still play in every World Cup qualifying competition despite having 0.001% of the population of everyone else. If your country is not good enough then they will not win.
