There is a better way to communicate

I have made an IRC channel called #adk on freenode. This way, it will be much easier to communicate. For windows users you can use mIRC[1], and mac user can use colloquy[2].

Follow your client's instructions on how to connect to the freenode network and join the channel. It goes a little something like this:

/connect irc.freenode.net

/j #adk

How is an IRC easier than the in-game chat?

I believe he wants to create a kind of lobby chat, to chat with others who are not your friend or in your game.

We should try to not reinvent the wheel twice. In tournaments where it gets quite hectic it would be smarter to use irc. If many people talk fast, text is lost ingame. There is also no private messaging system. Links can easily be shared.

I agree, that IRC may be a preferable option for people who are already used to using IRC. However there is a majority of people who do not know how to use it (it's not trivial for a beginner). Also you can't expect people to install an IRC-client just so they can join the tournament.

Also the in-game chat has the advantage that you don't need to change the window.

People who have pidgin can join IRC channels already.

On the other side, there are websites to join IRC channels on. No client needed.
