The permanent open borders in cf3 definitely decreased the amount of camping in the game. And it's a good idea that markers were introduced at the borders of the field, it gives the player more control, since it is easier to see where your snake will emerge when "entering" a border.
However I feel like even more controllability could be given to the player by displaying a slight glow in the color of your snake at the point of the border where your snake is about to emerge. This glow would obviously only be displayed whenever your snake is close to a border. It is furthermore only visible to you and not to other players.
Its therefore just a measure to increase controllability, which, I think is the essence of this game: easy to understand, easy to control, impossible to master.
