Failed to download data -- error message

I already posted about this in another member's topic, but as the moderator in touch with the player is offline, I thought I'd make another.

For the past two days, ive tried to login only to receive a Failed to dowload Data error message, and I'm not sure how to curcumvent the problem. I've made no changes to my internet browser (I use Firefox) and I get the same result on IE. I have yet to try Chrome.

Sounds simple but try to clear Cache haha

From Tools or History choose clear recent history, then click the arrow next to details and choose cache. Also try to select 'forever'.

Hello guys!

I have found a solution for you because a friend had the same problem like you.
It seems like you're using an adblocker so the game will not run at all if you do so.
I turned it off for him and it worked just fine.

To fix this turn off AdBlock completely when playing the game or make sure it shows ads on http://curvefever.com site by following those simple steps if you do not want to go through enabling and disabling AdBlock everytime you wish to play it:

1. Go to chrome's extension menu aka type this in the address bar: chrome://extensions/
This page should pop up and then click on Options

2. Once you've done that you would like to go to the customize tab and click on Show ads on a webpage or domain and then type in http://curvefever.com and then click GO!
3. Once Curve Fever shows up in the list below you should be able to play Curve Fever again but ads will appear on the site.

Hmm that is wierd actually, im wondering why adblock is blocking the download of our ingame content (maby it just blocks every swf file?)

Please do note that this was not intended! Although we like it if you play without adblocker, we do not want to enforce this (I hate ads myself). I'll have a check as to why this is happening!

EDIT: Quick update, if you have the download issue, and the whitelist fixes your issue. Please tell me what filter lists are enabled on your adblocker (and which adblocker you use).

Mine looks like this, and doesnt interfere with the game: http://puu.sh/cXtd7/baabd5c0d5.png

I believe it is Kaspersky generated as I use firefox from an IT operated office computer, but as I've said, this problem has only started happening within the last two days and nothing has changed with my computer settings. It seems most people here use Chrome..perhaps I should make the switch?

In the last few days we've moved some baked in data (icons, images, etc) to external files that are loaded on login.

The error indicates that it is failing at downloading these files. As you are getting these even when the server is running smoothly, it seems that something is blocking it. So it seems that somehow, something is blocking one or more of the downloads.

Hi,

I was able to solve the problem.  In my case it was Kaspersky. --> settings-->web anti-virus -> advanced Settings -> trusted sites customize -> http://curvefever.com.

Thanks you for the fast answer.

I hope it gets taken care of on your end in coming days/weeks because I don't have access to my Kaspersky software settings. As far as I know, it hasn't been tampered with as I'm usually alerted by IT if there will be any updates or adblocks going forward.. so basically I'm boned for now :(

Sorry, but without knowing WHY kaspersky is blocking us (and what it is blocking) i cant do much.

If you know any of these things, just post it here ;)

Maybe runji can provide better information since he also has kaspersky. It's just not providing me with enough info considering its not actually blocking any popup windows. I'm able to enter my login and password, but then the error message..its just over my head considering its an office terminal that i cant pick apart. Guess I'll be playing from home now XD

DvanSOA, if you play with chrome, you COULD open the developer tools, refresh the game, then look in the network tab and see what requests are being blocked ;)

I tried your suggestion on google chrome, zeroZshadow, and the developer tools showed me that my antivirus was in fact blocking ads, which is something I can't change since I don't have access to my antivirus settings. Any suggestions? I can provide the messages that show which sites are being blocked.

Did anybody already sent an email to kaspersky about it?

Could I know some details like what version of Kaspersky, what OS you are running, what error is coming up when it fails to load, including from the game and kaspersky, etc. It will help me to find out the problem if it is still occuring :)

alright...WHY the hell is this STILL happening? It corrected itself for a few days, and now im being blocked again going on 2 weeks now. Using google chrome..everything trusted..no blocked cookies. I get on just fine from home, but again, there's some kind of nonagreement between Kaspersky antivirus and whatever data packages these updates have created. Whats the deal, devs?

sorry for any missing characters, cannot get the full message to display as I'm not familiar with the developer tools debug menu, but hopefully theres some important info there you might recognize.

I also have Kaspersky on my laptop and I had similar problems. Before I log in I have to disable my Kaspersky protection for one minute, open a new tab and then log in. I have not found a permanent solution yet (I've tried the keep cookies and allow website avenues and none have been successful yet). I will keep searching for a permanent solution and let people know if I find one.

As for temporary, just disabling Kaspersky and then resetting CF should allow you to log in. I don't think adblocker is the issue because I removed this recently from my computer but still had the problem.

Thank you for your continued efforts, Tranquility. As you mentioned, it is not adblocker causing the problem, as that is not one of the extensions that is installed on my computer. Kaspersky and those packages created within the last couple of CF updates do not seem to get along for some reason.

Hi there,

Less ads, more freedoom. You don't have to disable ad-blocker.

Could you try one of the four solutions listed here ?

  • Once you've tried one of these solutions and if the game isn't loading properly yet , I suggest you to follow these steps :
  1.  Open the game in your default web-browser
  2. Right-Click > Flashplayer Global settings
  3. When the window is prompted, go to the last tab named "Advanced"
  4. Look for a button called "Safe zone/directories settings" (usually it is the 4th button in that tab)
  5. A new window will open, click on "Add", and enter the following url : http://curvefever.com/CF_Preloader.swf
  6. Click on "Save/Ok" and exit the global settings
  7. Eventually, restart your web-browser

If the game is not running yet, then it might be a Kaspersky issue. In that case, do not worry and do not disable it. Normally there's a "whitelist/safe url zone" which is not filtered by the antivirus. The Kaspersky-Web-browser-Plugin can block the requiered data as well but anyways, whenever Kaspersky blocks something, it will always show a notification window (unless you disabled that option, which I doubt).

Try the steps listed above and let me know how it's going.

Good luck !

Ivy,

It is a Kaspersky issue as I had no problems until I switched my antivirus to Kaspersky. I have added curvefever to the lists of allowed websites, however to no avail. I'm still working on this - though all you need to do right now is disable protection for one minute and then you can log in and your protection will return soon after.

DvanSOA,

Unfortunately I haven't managed to continue on this because I've been having laptop problems. I have a new one now though and will look into solving the problem again. Sorry for any inconvenience.
