Discussion on the August item poll

Since I can't post on the official tournament topic without getting warned, and can't post on the topic where the poll was created because of "taking it off topic" even though the only thing I wrote in my post directly relates to the topic, I will repost what I said here. Hopefully I will not get banned for voicing an opinion and asking for proof.

Are you telling me 72 separate people voted green corner ffa? A game mode that I have literally never seen being played when I look down the list of rooms, 1 month after a corner team tournament?

The fact the speed is clearly one of the 2 most popular items, along with thin, means I'm not surprised by the number of votes speed got. Especially since the last 1v1 speed was ages ago. But corner, getting 60 more votes than 3rd place items? When I never see anyone play it? I personally didn't even vote for speed, so I am not responding just because I want those items... this poll just seems ridiculous.

By all means prove me wrong if 72 people voted for these items, but to me it looks like 5 people have made 60+ votes on these items. Any way to tell me otherwise?

(plus I doubt 100+ people would vote on a poll in this forum when I doubt more than 30 people look at this forum every week) Smile

So I say again, if there proof? Can we see the huge number of accounts who voted for those items?

I guess that many thin players voted for corner since there was only thin with cheese as an option. I also doubt that 100+ accounts voted on this poll.

And even if there was more than hundred, many of them are non premiums which leads me to my next question: Why would you ever count non prem votes, when tournaments are only for premium users?

Due to privacy rules, mentioned in our privacy policy, we may only share the amount of votes. This being the number for each option. We may not share usernames or other content besides a number of votes.

When I started playing cf, it was possible for everybody to see the votes and it has been like this for a couple of years + I haven't seen anything at the privacy policy that says something about polls/votes ...

That sounds a lot like an excuse to prevent backlash, I mean I heard a mod say that himself. I still didn't see any statement on why votes of non premium accounts get counted.

After people started talking about these votes not having a place in such a poll you guys took the spreadsheet down. I really don't understand it, always mods doing the same mistakes over and over again. This non-transparency is terrible for the community and you guys gotta realize that.
Now the tournament is annouced and you guys (I don't wanna sound like im talking to one mod alone) don't have the strength to admit mistakes.

Feel free to take this comment down instead of actually reacting on criticism in a constructive way.

Jaan Otter did filter the votes in the poll, the counted independent votes are mentioned in the sign-up topic: "Green Corner FFA tournament got the most votes (54), 1 vs. 1 Green Speed + Blue Eraser + 3 Circles finished 2nd with 50 votes and Thin + Swiss Cheese 3rd with 8 votes."

Speed is one of the most popular items, but 1v1 speed is not that popular. And Real wins >90% of the 1v1 tournaments anyways. I prefer corner FFA. And 1v1 green speed tour will come eventually, it has every year, if I remember correctly.

As you all wanted a conclusion or statement. I have researched everything and I will mention the following to the community.

We understand the need of the community to express themselves. We now know that there is no need for 2 tournaments a month and that corner is not the most favorite powerup. We read a lot of your feedback concerning this topic. With this feedback in mind I would love to make a few things clear before getting to our conclusion.

1. The tournament moderator had the intention to make tournaments even more fun by providing the community with an extra tournament a month. We did have requests for this to be done for a long time already. We finally looked into it and decided to give it a try. We understand now that the biggest part of the community does not like this.

2. We are able to share the number of votes. Due to a misunderstanding a spreadsheet was published with information that shouldn't be public. We would like to apologize for this. This has been removed when we found out.

3. We only share voting results by: showing you the number of votes for each option. We do not show usernames connected to a vote. This is since 2016 under the European GDPR law which can be found here. I have seen members and also ex-moderators mentioning this was possible in the past. The past is not the present. Things have changed as they do with time. These are the rules behind a privacy policy. May I remind that this is not a rule by the Curve Fever Privacy policy but by the commission of the European Union.

4. Non-premium users were able to join in order to give them interest in joining a tournament. Adding new players to a tournament is in everyones favor. We will research if this was the best method, but we did have the best intentions with it.

5. I have seen people that do not believe the poll, use terms as 'fraud'. I would like to emphasis that the results are as correct as we can possibly make them. People do indeed make accounts to fake vote but we can only filter as good as possible. My own and first priority is to make the moderator team as transparant as possible. My apologies if that has not been the case with this.

Conclusion:

We regret the way this topic escalated. We did not expect the amount of reactions and negative feedback as we did the last few days. We are always open to feedback and we will learn from what has happened, both on our as on the community side.

There is no discussion about releasing names of the voting. This is not allowed by the European commission law GDPR since 2016.

The 'second' CF2 august tournament will be removed. For now we organize 1 tournament a month. We also decided that we will not have votings for tournaments anymore as that is the main reason of this situation. I would like to apologize to the community for this confusing event. This hasn't been perfect and we will learn from our mistakes. With this statement we will close this subject and continue to enjoy the game like we all do!

Best,
