Communication

Hi everybody,

Contrary to popular belief we did see that there has been a lot going on in the community. For instance one of our users rightfully stated: ”Recently I have observed a significant downfall in so called 'community spirit', and none of the involved parties have done themselves any justice whatsoever.” We are truly sorry to let this have happened.

Another user stated stated: “There are no clear rules at all on this forum. That is the first thing a community needs in order to work and make a better place to live in.”

We couldn’t agree more. The first step we are going to take is to introduce a clear set of rules and guidelines. Together with the moderators we have created the User rules and guidelines, which we based upon the guidelines of other large communities. Please read them carefully.

The next step is to improve the way we communicate with you. First we are going to get you updated about what we are doing by having a Q&A session on Curve Radio. For one hour we will answer all your questions! You can submit questions through the request line of Curve Radio. The session will take place on Monday the 22th of september at 21:00 CEST. After that we will keep you updated on twitter, on which we will try to frequently tweet about what we are doing and what keeps us busy. Here you will also be able to ask us any question. When there are updates or announcements we will use the forum to keep you informed. In the future we will focus on giving a better explanation for the things we do, than you are currently used to from us.

That’s all for now. Feel free to leave a comment below.

Regards,

The Office
Geert and WaVe

Well done, after about two years some "rules" are written down. Next time you'll create a game, FIRST write the rules, and THEN ban people.

Anyway, I really wonder about some rules:

"Openly argue with a moderator, if you have a problem, you may make a complaint to them directly and not publicly on the website"

-> Does this mean that a moderator on an online game is more "worth" than a "normal" player? I don't see a rule which is against my thought. There is no "other-way-around" rule.

"Use any other language than English"

-> What is the "Off Topic" for then? Why do you want to forbid people to use other language in "Off Topic". That's why it's called "OFF" topic, no?

"Abuse or encourage abuse of the Report system, or Tribunal"

-> Until now, I didn't see that many reports got reviewed. A lot of people got banned for very little reasons, because people simply report and afterwards press on "Punish" to collect the coins. That's what I also have done several times, because the main outcome of the "Punish or Pardon" is "Punish", so it's easy to collect coins. Probably don't let the players vote then if you are not willing to review every report.

"Post spam (i.e. “+1”, “k”, “lol”, 10char, rickrolls)"

-> Seriously, what kind of rule is this? Where is the problem if someone writes "lol" or so? Do you want everyone to write ten sentences? People sometimes just want to write a smiley for fun, why not? I don't think that it bothers anyone. You don't check every topic anyway.

"Re-post closed, modified, deleted content"

-> Where is the problem to repost something if the topic-creator thinks he/she is right? There is no option to contact you moderators since you barely answer anything. Geert even has disabled his private messages and an e-mail to curve fever mail always gets read by a person who should not read it. I don't think that only Geert has access to this e-mail.

Bump threads

-> In other forums it's mainly allowed to "bump" threads within 24h or something. If the thread goes down, and no one answered to some question, why shouldn't it be allowed to bump the thread? What else should people do if they get ignored?

Well, as I can see, I didn't "insult" anyone or so and wrote in a "nice" way. Let's see when my post will get deleted and my account gets banned again for my opinion.

I'm looking forward to read an answer to my questions from you mods.

Hi Yellow,

First off, we already had forum rules. Just the fact that you didn't know them, doesn't mean they were not there. You can read the old forum rules here: http://curvefever.com/content/curve-fever-forum-rules. The new rules are all very normal rules, used by a wide variety of forums on the internet. From now on if you don’t comply to these rules you will first get a warning. After several warnings, we will consider taking a more severe action, by giving a forum mute, or a ban, or an ip-ban.

Let me go a little bit deeper into the topics:

>> "Openly argue with a moderator, if you have a problem, you may make a complaint to them directly and not publicly on the website"

> Does this mean that a moderator on an online game is more "worth" than a "normal" player? I don't see a rule which is against my thought. There is no "other-way-around" rule.

With this rule we basically say that we do not want you to have verbal fights with our moderators in the forum. If you are angry or dissatisfied with a specific moderator, then contact him or her directly, or send an email to supportatcurvefever.com . On the other hand, we encourage you to have discussions, as long as they are polite and constructive.

>> "Use any other language than English"

> What is the "Off Topic" for then? Why do you want to forbid people to use other language in "Off Topic". That's why it's called "OFF" topic, no?

This is very simple, we are an English website, with English speaking mods. That’s why the main language on the forum is English. Also in off-topic.

>> "Abuse or encourage abuse of the Report system, or Tribunal"

> Until now, I didn't see that many reports got reviewed.

Tribunal is an automatic system, and we are actively working on making it better. One of the things we improved recently is that people can ask for a rectification from a mod to look into their case. (this is also in the automatic mail they receive from the tribunal). People who judged wrongly will not get the coins for this case.

>>"Post spam (i.e. “+1”, “k”, “lol”, 10char, rickrolls)"

> Seriously, what kind of rule is this? Where is the problem if someone writes "lol" or so? Do you want everyone to write ten sentences? People sometimes just want to write a smiley for fun, why not? I don't think that it bothers anyone. You don't check every topic anyway.

When you post something in the forum it has to add something to the topic. Therefore we don’t want our users to make a post which only contains “lol”. It doesn’t add anything to the discussion or topic.

>> "Re-post closed, modified, deleted content"

When a post is closed, modified or deleted, then this is done for a reason. Posting it again would be considered as spam.

>> Bump threads

In this forum it is not allowed to bump threads. Somebody will react, and otherwise nobody will. It is not a very busy forum, so it should be no problem. Your topic will be seen and read.

A moderator needs to make sure the forum is a fun and nice place to be for the majority of players. If you don’t agree with a moderator action on the forums, you can send a complaint by mail to supportatcurvefever.com. This is a very efficient way, as the whole mod team will look into it and discuss about it. Your forum moderators are: Depp, Calmy, Ateri, HeLiX WaVe, Remco and Geert

What about writing in capslock? I think I didn't see any rule about it, so is it allowed?

We consider it as spamming.
