Big Plans

Dear Curvers,

Let’s talk about some future plans we have for Curve Fever.
We know that CF2 is a great game, with a great community.

We also want to acknowledge the fact that the game has flaws and isn’t perfect. Some bugs have been in the game for a while, some networking issues cannot be further resolved and our server provider is still PlayerIO.

We understand that seeing some bugs over and over might feel like nothing is happening on our side but that’s not the case. We have tried to solve a lot of these problems but we’ve run into the limits of what can be achieved with our current setup.

Some of these problems are related directly to Flash and it’s limited networking capabilities. Also the game is written to work with PlayerIO, so we’re not able to make an easy switch there. Other problems are caused by old code and lots of stuff that has changed over the years that make things very complicated and cluttered to work with. So that’s something we’d like to fix:

  • We want to build a new CF version in HTML 5.
  • Make use of new network technology (e.g. Web-sockets)
  • Choose a more reliant server provider to have more control and provides more stability.

So basically we want to fix the underlying problems the game currently has.

  • and while we’re at it, we might as well take the moment to make the game better. And yes, that includes adding new gameplay features you all have been waiting for.

So with that we hope to be more transparent from now on about what’s going on ‘behind the scenes’.

On that note we would like to know:
Are there any players close to Breda in NL that would like to visit our office and help us test new features?
Send an email to supportatcurvefever.com (incl. your username) or just leave a comment here and we'll add your associated mail to our mailing list.

Later in the process we will have a beta program for everyone.

Not at the start, since the networking and multiplayer will have to be rebuild. But when it's possible we'll definitely announce it.

Hm I live in Tilburg, and I'd like to test it out, but I don't know if I actully will. But nevertheless, good work and good luck with everything :)

Ps. Is there some kind of age limit? Like you have to be at least 16 years old or something like that? Or isn't that a problem?

Also, the following: "and while we’re at it, we might as well take the moment to make the game better. And yes, that includes adding new gameplay features you all have been waiting for." Didn't know I was waiting for them, what features?

Something here isn't clear for me: are you building the HTML5 version or you'd like to?

We're going to make an html5 version.

I'm currently prototyping with different engines and tools to see which one will fit curve fever best.

Awesome plan!

Can you give us a little estimation about how long it will take to realise this?

My name is Jeff.

People ask about time. I can't tell you anything about it, but it will not be soon :). Recreating a whole game takes time, and we don't 'simply' want to recreate CF2 in HTML 5. We want to make it a better game, solve some of the issues CF2 has now. I would say our goals are:

  • More depth and variation to the game
  • A better feeling of progression
  • More gameplay and visual content that can be unlocked
  • Better community integration

We want to keep:

  • The main game mechanic (off course)
  • Skill based
  • Very accessible to play with friends

I think the fact we want to invite players to our headquarters, already shows we take it quite seriously.

Supersuka I don't know how many times we have to tell you, switching server provider is not a "one day thing". The code is designed around PlayerIO so switching would be a good bit of time and effort.

Please be productive or don't say anything at all, thank you.

Hi, that's a very good idea to rebuild the game in HTML5. Flash is obsolete and buggy and not very secure.

Are you going to transfer the player stats or will there be a complete reset?

We are currently working on a prototype in the new HTML5 enviroment. This means we're going to try out all the new things we have in mind for the remake. This will take a long while, so everyone will have to be patience. Over time (once a month hopefully) we'll show some of the progress we are making.

When would you want players to come by in Breda? I don't live that nearby, but if I could plan it I would be interested :)

Since you devs are working in big plans I think it's proper to suggest to buy a new server in South America, since there are lots of players from this region who are playing this game, and suffer the constant lags, slows, etc.

You may think that we as South Americans should play in the American Server, but it's just the United States where only they don't suffer the slows.

Almost every south american player have more lag and slows in the "american" server, so it isn't a good deal, plus it is dead (not even quickplay implemented).

Long time ago there was a project of buying a new host in this area, but for some reason it got abandoned.

Quickplay is actually disabled because there are so little players on the American server.

Other wise people would be waiting forever for a match that might not even start (we need 6 players with close ranks for matchmaking to work)

As for the servers, I can't promise anything, but we're doing our best to make the game run as smooth as possible for everyone.
