Arena 3 Videos and how to get player names automatically?

I have finally overcome myself and made some videos again. They are arena 3 games as they came. I uploaded a few but there are more in the queue which I will release in the next days bit by bit.

This was quite some work for "low effort videos". I wrote a script which generates the jump marks in the youtube descriptions from the video editor file. So I at least don't have to do that by hand. Note that only the first video has the player names in the description yet (as this is a pain in the ass doing this by hand; I cannot do that automatically yet)

Any suggestions how to improve these videos are appreciated. Also please let me know if you see insulting chat.

However I have not found a good way to get the player names automatically. (For the CF2 quickplay videos i pulled the game results from the cf website, but that is not an option anymore)

What I have already tried to get the player names:
Since it is an HTML5 game i thought I could run a tempermonkey script which pulls the player names from the DOM. But as it turns out everything is drawn on a canvas with no obvious way to extract the data from the DOM.

The other thing I tried was I wrote a script which saved the video to images with ffmpeg. I cropped these images and ran ocr on these snippets. The results however were very unreliable.

If anyone has an idea how I can get the player names without typing them by hand I would be glad.

Cheers

Nice initiative. However some of your recordings are over 2 hours along, I can't imagine someone watching all of that in one sitting. The good thing though - if someone wanted to - they can take that footage and concise it down to a pretty sick montage.

Anyway, did you find a script yet? I see that you have all the players listed in alphabetical order.

I could help you with sending your matchlinks since you are in all of your own videos (and they are in chronological order), if there are no better suggestions. It would take me like one minute if I copy and paste ~60 of your games in a raw format for you and I can do it within 24 hours or less after you ask for it. (Copying matchlinks is even easier in cf3 than cf2.) I will need permission from Devs for sending you matchlinks regularly. I'm happy to send if it would help you!

Btw the ocr method sounds cool, i tried doing some research but its beyond my scope of knowledge. I did figure out the font of the text to be recognized but it didn't seem to help me finding a more suitable ocr.

It took over 2 hours to play so you should have to watch for so long. Just kidding. I would imagine that ppl just watch their own games or games of players they know. But I have no idea how these videos are watched.

Anyway, did you find a script yet? I see that you have all the players listed in alphabetical order.

I wrote a script which takes the video descriptions, filters the names out, sorts and uniques them to make the "credits". But the video descriptions are still made by hand Dirol

@miaonaise
Thank you for the offer!

However I am not sure how practicable that is. For instance the next video I wanted to upload was recorded on 2016-11-08. Do you still have the data for these games?

If you still have the data I would gladly take it. As I enjoy writing little scripts to automate the making of these videos. But don't stress yourself out Smile
