This is the normal price. If you host a ranked game, game with >6 players or with special/custom powerups, you have to pay 500 coins each time you start a game.
Hosting this type of rooms is a premiumfeature and since the coinsystem got introduced, normal users can do it too, but they have to pay for it.
So they won't give you your coins back, as you spend them on a normal way.
As you mention yourself you have spent your coins on an icon. Before you can buy this you need to type your password as a double check to verify you is you and that you want to buy this. Since you bought, with coins, the icon.. we can sadly enough no revert this. We won't be able to refund you since you are already making us of what you bought.

Um, hey. I wasted my coins on an icon when I got custom powerups, I could not do custom powerups because I wasted my coins..
Can you do me a favor and maybe give me 500 coins? More is ok.
